KL Tower

It was a rare sunny day in KL so we hotfooted it over to the KL Menara to check out the views of the city. The tower is situated on a hill so we made sure the cab driver took us to the entrance.

This massive telecommunications tower features an observation deck high in sky. You buy your ticket, take a lift up to the tower then join a queue. After a while we figured out the queue was just to recieve a headset from a girl in a santa suit so we pushed on past, not wanting headsets, and went to check out the views.

The views over the city are fabulous and we spent over an hour clicking away taking photos of the city skyline. The weather was clear enough so see as far away as the mountains fringing the city and beyond. A great way to see how the city has spread out into the large metropolis it is today. You also get some great views down into hotel swimming pools!

After enjoying the views there was a small and rather quiet selection of pricey shops downstairs, and the tower grounds are pleasant. There is even some kind of nature walk nearby, but in KL's sticky afternoon sun this wasn't on the agenda.

There is a rare 95 year old Jelutung tree just outside with benches underneath which offers both a nice view of the nearby skyscrapers and a pleasant breeze. We hung out here for a while enjoying the shade of this mighty tree before leaving.

Note that the taxis operating here work on fixed price coupons and will not under any circumstances turn on thier meters or negotiate - if you don't like it you have to walk down the hill yourself. The journey which cost us RM4 from our hotel cost us RM10 to return!
